What we planned
We the stylists at Kokopelli Salon travelled to Mexico to volunteer our time with children in need. We had been collecting donations and doing fund-raisers for over a year in order to bring supplies to 2 orphanages. In this first trip we visited the orphanages, brought school supplies and cut the hair of all the children and staff.
Our hope is that this is only the first step in a bigger journey. We feel very fortunate to have successful careers in Hairstyling and would like to be able to give back. Our hope is to continue our affiliation with the orphanages and school for years to come.
Who we supported
Casa Hogar was founded in 1993. It is a non profit organization; a shelter dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned, abandoned, disadvantaged or vulnerable children. They support 43 children of all ages (birth through life) and is operated under the patronage of donors, private sponsors & volunteers.
R.I.S.E. is a non-profit shelter for babies and children under the age of 14 who have been turned over to R.I.S.E. by DIF (Desarrollo Integral de la Familia), a Mexican government institution that is the legal representative for minors under the age of 14. The only financial assistance they get from DIF is $3,000.00 pesos a month!

How we fundraised
Surprisingly a bake sale in September was a great success
In October 2014 we had a cut-a-thon which was wildly successful. The entire staff and friends stayed after work and cut hair from 6-midnight. We did 102 haircuts in 6 hours. All the proceeds were used to buy school supplies for the kids.
We raffled off two beautiful handmade quilts at the salon. They were made by a very talented quilt designer in Quebec and had been gifted to us to be auctioned. All proceeds went to support the orphanages in Mexico.
